Clevedon Seafront Water Activity Developments MARLENS in association with Clevedon Sailing Club and North Somerset.

  • Short Term Plan (1 - 2 years)


  • 1) Formal transfer of all sailing dinghies, canoes rowing skiffs and equipment to Clevedon Sailing Club (CSC).
    Deliverables and Measures of Success:
    • The completed signed Agreement of the transfer between MARLENS and CSC.


  • 2) Oversee the planning and erection of a suitable enclosure at the Clevedon sea front, large enough to house “The Community Fleet” and to include additional space for maintenance and repair of the fleet.
    Deliverables and Measures of Success
    • An architect plan, building survey report and three estimates
    • Finance/Budget from YANSEC and North Somerset Council
    • Completed structure
    • Agreement on insurance maintenance & development costs


  • 3) Produce a Document outlining “Criteria for Fleet Usage”. The document will be written and jointly approved by MARLENS and CSC before the Fleet is brought into use for the community and other outside groups. This is to ensure that all the safeguards are in place for insurance/Health and Safety duty of care/security and staffing/instruction. CSC, as owners of the fleet will control usage and development in partnership with MARLENS.

  • 4) Produce a Sailing Programme. CSC aided by MARLENS will set up and run weekend trainer sailing for CSC members and any other youngsters within our area that wish to learn to sail.

  • 5) MARLENS in discussion with CSC will actively seek out opportunities for outside bodies (e.g. schools, clubs and youth groups) to use the community fleet in strict accordance with the “Criteria For Fleet Usage” document.

    • Produce and run a pilot scheme before rollout
    • Greater usage of the lake and surrounding area
    • Growth of the Sailing Action Record
    • Greater support, involvement and guidance from the RYA, BCU, ARA, ASA etc.
    • Partnership agreement between CSC & MARLENS


  • Mid-term Plan (2-5 years)
  • Develop a Centre for Water Sports on the Clevedon sea front, which will include an Official Training Centre, in many water sport disciplines, backed by the RYA, BCU, ARA, ASA etc.


  • Long-term Plan (5-10 years)
  • The production of a plan, with all interested parties, to finance a new Clevedon Water Sports facility on the sea front to house all the adventure sports taking place throughout the year in the context of a seafront re-generation project.
