TO MARINE LAKE ENTHUSIASTS
The bill for the Community Boat-store is paid. I will now stand down from the committee but will first, enjoy the MARLENS Festival on 14th, 15th, 16th, September and contribute to the Review. (programme attached)
The First Stage in the development of the VISION is now complete:
It was triggered by Clevedon Sailing Club at the launch of Clevedon Community Plan in March 2004. CSC continues to set the pace through its nationally successful cadets currently represented by Sam Coombs and Nathan Batchelor - with Anthony and Stephen Wilcocks in their Mirror Dinghy coming up on the buoys! - its new RYA Training Centre and its regular displays of seamanship on the Bristol Channel
MARLENS is constituted as required by the Charities Commission to become a Charitable Trust for the Marine Lake. It should do so! Grant aid is available. It needs strong leadership, inspired by the action generated by our talented clubs and enthusiastic schools, to continue its crusade for the realization of the lake’s great potential. It draws enthusiastic praise from residents and visitors and has attracted generous sponsorship.
The tip of the irrepressible “Middle Yeo Surf- Life-saving Club” – Exemplars of Action! - whose members still swim from the Beach every day of the year, was exposed by Len Hurley’s 50th recent participation in the long swim & Gary Carpenter’s record crossing of the Bristol Channel from Penarth to Clevedon Pier. Gary follows in the path carved out by Steve Price - our unique Channel Swimmer/Band Leader/Businessman/Lake Advocate - who is now in training for an unimaginable circumnavigation of Manhattan Island!
The amazing growth of Clevedon Canoe Club has proved that the lake attracts and sustains a constant stream of enthusiastic, young parents. Formed in October 2006, its birth has re-vitalised our lake, provided BCU support for schools and its members and, by attracting great and escalating family support, has ensured non-stop use of the kayaks of the Community Fleet.
The Concerted action led by our three fantastic water-sports clubs and the spice and dedication of Mike Mayhew, our volunteer ‘Marine Lake Warden’ and his unique Model Boat Club are the keys which will enable us, together, to unlock the VISION
“Clevedon Marine Lake’s original vibrancy and use fully restored!”
The second stage needs:
- Continuous use of the lake led by Schools & Families!
- Appreciation & Support from the Local Community!
- Creativity and Dynamic leadership!
- Grant Aid, Fund Raising and Sponsorship!
- Constant care & development!
